FAMILY REUNION

 

You may obtain a temporary residence permit for your family members if you hold a permanent residence permit in the Republic of Slovenia or have lived there for at least last year on the basis of a temporary residence permit which is valid for at least another year, except in cases where your temporary residence permit is issued for the purposes of performing seasonal work or a daily commuter. You can exercise your right to family reunion without restrictions as to the lenght of your stay or permit valid if you are a holder of the EU Blue Card or of a temporary residence permit for research and higher education  purposes.

 

You should submit an application for a temporary residence permit for the purpose of family reunion at a diplomatic or consular representation of the Republic of Slovenia abroad or at the administrative unit in the area where you reside. a temporary residence permit for the purpose of family reunion will be served to your family member or their statutory representative at the diplomatic or consular representation abroad.

 

You can apply for a permanent residence permit for the purposes of family reunion provided that you were granted refugee status in Slovenia and your family had existed before your entry into Slovenia. If you enjoy subsidiary protection in Slovenia, you can apply for a temporary residence permit for those family members who existed before your entry into the country. If you apply for a temporary or permanent residence permit for the purpose of family reunion within 90 days of having been granted international protection in Slovenia, you are only required to provide proof of the existence of family ties. However, if you file an application after that 90-day period, it needs to be supported by evidence confirming the fulfilment of the general conditions, including proof of sufficient means of subsistence and adequate health insurance. You should file an application for a temporary or permanent residence permit with the Ministry of the Interior, which will decide it.

 

Family members are as follows: an alien's spouse, a registered partner or long-term relationship partner, an alien's minor (below 18 years of age), unmarried children, minor unmarried children of an alien's spouse, a registered partner or long-term relationship partner, parents of a minor alien with whom he/she lived in a family before arriving to the Republic of Slovenia, adult unmarried children and the parents of an alien, an alien's spouse, a registered partner or long-term relationship partner whom an alien or an alien's spouse, registered partner or long-term relationship partner is obliged to support according to the legislation of the state in which this alien or this alien's spouse is a citizen, a registered partner or long-term relationship partner. An administrative unit may, however, in exceptional circumstances consider a family member to be another alien's relative if special circumstances speak in favour of a family reunion in the Republic of Slovenia.

 

 

You can submit the application at a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad or at the administrative unit in the area where you reside or intend to reside.

 

 

Aside from the basic conditions for obtaining a residence permit for your family members:

  • a valid passport (the validity of which exceeds the intended period of stay in the Republic of Slovenia by at least three months);
  • adequate health insurance covering urgent health care services in the Republic of Slovenia as a minimum requirement;
  • sufficient means of subsistence in a monthly amount at least equal to the basic minimal income in the Republic of Slovenia;
  • a police clearance certificate of not older than three months from your home country (if the country in question issues it), translated into Slovenian and verified;
  • an authentic photograph of yourself, while a family member must also submit two fingerprints at a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad for their digital capture,

you are obliged to prove the existence of family relationship (original extracts from registers proving your marriage or your child's birth, written on international forms or the forms of your home country, translated into Slovenian and verified).
